- Common Myrtle tree (myrtus communis) is an evergreen medium sized shrub that is well-known as Symbol of beauty and love. Characterized by small glossy green foliage which when crushed releases pleasant fragrance. And also bear showy white flowers that generally bloom from mid spring to early summer, followed by producing purplish-black berries. Common Myrtle trees are also easy to care for and drought tolerant too. Making them relevant for Outdoor Gardening.
Common Myrtle tree (Myrtus Communis) is easy to care for and is Drought tolerant.
- Myrtle trees thrive in the presence of full sunlight or even in partial shade depending on weather. Ideal temperature at which their healthy growth is certain is 16 – 24 degree Celsius. Water them moderately enough to keep soil moist, not wet. Soil on which they are supposed to be planted must be well-drained. And in terms of feeding, use organic fertilizers at least once a week during the growing season, also note, avoid feeding during winter.
It contains effective medicinal values.
- Parts like leaves, fruit and even branches of the Common Myrtle tree come in use for medicinal purposes. Therefore, Myrtus Communis could be used to treat lung infections including whooping cough, bronchitis and tuberculosis. They had been also taking for bladder conditions, heavy periods, persistent heartburn, diarrhoea, worms and yeast infections.
They had been coming in use for culinary purposes too.
- Myrtle tree berries were initially used to flavour wine and now you could commonly see them on deserts, sweet dishes and liqueurs. Their leaves have been used in roast meats, stews, salads, stuffing and meat ragouts.
It’s not a pet-friendly plant.
- Although their berries can be eaten fresh, other parts of Myrtle tree are poisonous. Hence, it’s not advisable to plant them near children or pets.
