We are about to talk about 8 top Office plants that could survive low-light conditions, mostly recommended by nurseries around UAE. These plants are also excellent air-purifiers, and are mainly grown considering their ornamental values. 

Golden Pothos

Scientifically known as Epipremnum aureum. And also, commonly known to be Devil's Ivy. These money plants are excellent climbers or could be trained to grow with support. They appear with a fleshy green foliage with variegated or golden splash on them. These leaves are more oval rather than heart-shaped. And these plants hardly grow well with low-light intensity.

Chinese Evergreen

Commonly termed as “Aglaonema”, is a hardy, low-maintenance plant that is very versatile and adjustable to many indoor growing conditions. They are excellent air-purifiers and considered best for AC rooms. Chinese Evergreen plants are about different types with distinct appearance of their foliage. There are more than a hundred different types in general, but here are only 4 main types.

From bottom left to right bottom, in clockwise direction plants are Aglaonema Keylime, Aglaonema Maria, Aglaonema Diamond Bay, Aglaonema Red Ruby, respectively.

Aglaonema Key lime- Foliage contains numerous shades of yellow and green in narrow bands, resembling key lime, covering the entire leaf giving enough contrast to cream colored stems.

Aglaonema Maria- Their leaves are much shorter but wider as compared to its other species. And appearance is much compact, with glossy dark green leaves and splashes of silver blotches on them.

Aglaonema Diamond Bay- Their leaves are of wide and longer shape. And their foliage has cream-white stripe from the center with green edges.

Aglaonema Red RubyThis type has leaves with dark green edges and unusual splashes of red and pink color on them.

Philodendron Plants:

Philodendron Plants are hardy rainforest plants that are known for being an excellent air-purifier. These hardy plants have originated from South America and are very adaptive to growing environments. They can thrive patiently with the low-light conditions, but also do grow at a slow rate though.  These plants are often mistaken as Pothos due to similarity of leaves. But in fact, Pothos foliage is much different if you closely observe. Pothos leaves are more variegated with white or yellow splotches. Instead of that, Philodendron leaves are a bit larger than those of Phothos. And It also has long aerial roots, subterranean roots.

Philodendron plants have around 480 recognizable species characterized by their distinct foliage. Out of them below are four mentioned. Most of the types are divided in two forms, “Vining philodendrons” that could be trained to grow and climb with support, and another form are “Non-climbing philodendrons”, which are ones that grow upright in a spreading habit.

Dracaena Plants:

Its popular ornamental indoor plants. These are excellent air-purifier recognized by NASA. They could grow up to 2-3m. And are very well known for their glossy leaves. Coming from the family of “Asparagaceae”, Dracaena has around 40 species, but below we are going to state 3 most distributed species, which are characterized by their distinct foliage appearance. 

Dracaena Reflexa: This plant is also known as “Song of India”, and is widely distributed due to its attractive leaves. Their narrow-pointed leaves with yellow stripes could be the focal point at any house.

Dracaena fragrans: This dracaena has leaves that resemble much like corn. Leaves have a yellow stripe, & arching long appearance.

Dracaena Marginata: This plant is Aka Madagascar Dragon Tree, Known for their narrow leaves with purple reddish margins. 

 

Sansevieria trifasciata, Snake Plants:

Scientifically known as Sansevieria trifasciata, these are easy to care indoor hardy plants. They are very adaptable to any indoor environment. Most of their varieties are acknowledged due to their upright stiff growth possessed with sword-like leaves. And each type is distinct by their appearance like having foliage of banded or edged shape with silver or gray or gold color.

Some of its widely distributed varieties are: -


Sansevieria trifasciata 'Black Gold' – This snake plant has upright stiff grown, dark green leaves, with gold edges.

Sansevieria trifasciata 'Golden Hahnii' – These are known for light green foliage with golden edges.

Sansevieria trifasciata 'Futura Robusta' – This is a Compact variety with silver striped – dark green leaves. 

Sansevieria trifasciata 'Futura Superba' – Known for their light green leaves with mottled silver color and golden edges.

Peace Lily:

These Indoor Plants are excellent air purifiers for Home or Office space. They are possessed with dark green leaves and unique flowers that rarely blossom indoors. Their flowers actually appear as a White leaf bract or spathes that hood over flowers. These indoor plants grow well even in low light conditions.

Zamioculcas Zamiifolia, ZZ Plant:

These are indoor perennial plants, coming from the family of “Aracae” and with native to eastern Africa. These plants are excellent air-purifiers along with adaptive nature toward low-light conditions. They also are drought tolerant too. They are known for their glossy green leaves and Spathe-type white flowers that are almost similar to flowers of Peace lily.
